High School Teacher of the Year

High School – Glenn Howard, Business Business teacher Glenn Howard has been named the Union High School Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020. Howard has taught a total of 32 years, beginning his Union career during the 1993-1994 school year (27 years!). “From a young age, I discovered that the closest relationships I had in school were with my teachers,” Howard said. “I felt I could go to them for good advice if I had a problem. They were some of the most passionate and caring people that I have known and I saw how lives could be transformed by a caring teacher. If I became a teacher, I felt there would be more opportunities for me to form relationships with young people and wanted to be the person that young people could turn to when they needed advise. My entire educational career has been touched by my colleagues. I feel that I am living a legacy, walking the path that these educators have laid down before me. Therefore, I wanted to be an educator, an example, a mentor and confidant, to make a difference in the lives of as many students and teachers as possible. I estimate that I have directly impacted over 6000 students and through mentoring teachers, indirectly impacted thousands more students during my 32 year career. I feel I am making a difference and honored to be considered one of the best by my colleagues, an effective teacher. What a legacy to continue!” Howard said he enjoys teaching technology. “I enjoy teaching technology courses because I am fascinated by our rapidly changing digital age. I feel there is no better reward than witnessing student engagement with technology and excitement as they grasp a concept for the first time. After reading, writing and arithmetic, it is vital for students to have a strong digital foundation in the current job market. Therefore, I am highly motivated to share the emerging technologies of today’s digital age that are vital to student’s success during college and career. “ Educational Background: •	Associates degree from Claremore Junior College (Rogers State College) •	Bachelors from Northeastern State University •	Certified in Chemistry, Physical Science and Physical Education •	Completed AP Computer Science Summer Institute at Texas Lutheran University
